Greenwood Lake Elementary

A Community That Works, Learns and Succeeds Together

  • Fall 2016

As we adjust to the change in temperatures and daylight and enjoy the beautiful fall colors of the hudson valley, the academic year has begun to emerge in its own varying shades. Students are building relationships, building stamina, building independence and shifting toward a deeper dive into curricula.  For me, being part of all of these ‘shades’ of school life is truly enjoyable as Greenwood Lake Elementary School continues to thrive.

Afterschool Clubs have begun with approximately 100 students (almost half of our building) participating in an activity such as art, coding, drama, environmental, intramurals and lego club.  It is exciting to have our staff share interests and topics outside the school day with our students and wonderful to host so many children for the extra-curricular opportunities.

In recognition of bus safety week, we hosted a bus driver breakfast and bus safety assembly and it was a big success.  Collaborative efforts with the transportation office allowed the transportation team and our building team to talk about current transportation routines as well as bring an awareness of bus safety and guidance to the children in an assembly format. Students participated with a song led by Mr Pignataro and the PBIS committee.  Drivers got to visit the school and learn more about our school wide PBIS program.  We reviewed strategies for talking with students about behavior & de-escalating any incidents that may occur - highlighting expectations for being respectful, responsible and safe.

PBIS - Positive Behavior Intervention System is going strong in Greenwood Lake Elementary School.  We are planning to celebrate reaching our building goal on October 31st with a Monster Mash Dance in the gym following the Halloween Parade.

PTSA is sponsoring “Coffee with the Principal” various times throughout the year.  Please join me as we discuss topics such as effective practices in instruction, assessments and various building wide programs.

Thank you for the continuous support you give our students and our school community.

    Sincerely,

    Maria Boller, Principal
